merry christmas from the bowden’s

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

thanksgiving has come and gone. i have many things for which to be thankful. a wonderful wife who cares greatly for me, two beautiful daughters, great family, awesome friends, wonderful church, great job, etc. i could go on and on.

but most importantly i we have a almighty God who loves me us so much that he sent His Son to change the world forever. it is an overused cliche, but that is the reason for this season. everyone tends to love this time of year, but mostly because they enjoy the presents, candy, time off, etc. it’s easy to get caught up in the consumerism that surrounds Christmas. who doesn’t love santa claus???

we, who know the risen savior enjoy this season even more. yes, there are good things that come with families getting together and generosity being spread around, but to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ is something special. reading Luke 2 on Christmas Eve and haveing a candlelight worship. all this because a little baby was born in a tiny town called bethlehem.

i hope everyone who reads this (all two of you) and even those who don’t, have a wonderful Christmas. enjoy this time as we celebrate the coming of the King and we spread the word about His good news.

in the words of the angel to the shepherds:

I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
–Luke 2:10-11 (NIV)–

small town politics

there is a funny story tucked away on 3B of today’s waco trib. you can read it here:

police chief arrests mayor

it seems that meridian’s mayor ran across a truck charging it’s battery off of a city building. the mayor took the extension cord and stored it in city hall. later in the day the police chief arrested the mayor for “depriving him of use of the cord.” in that case, shouldn’t the chief arrest himself or the truck owner for stealing electricity from the city. the truck owner also appears to be a friend of the chief. days later the chief resigned, which is supposedly unrelated to the arrest. yeah, right!

that would be a fun way to get back at somebody you’ve been annoyed with. arrest them under silly pretenses and then resign. showed them!

must have been a slow day in meridian!

naptime

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

i’m biased, of course, but i will say that we have two cute daughters. the oldest has quite an imagination, too.

on most days, hannah is supposed to take naps in the afternoon. some days she takes long ones, but on others she just sits on the bed reads or plays with her stuffed animals and lets her imagination run wild. just last week, we had two such occasions.

the first we didn’t really discover until that night when dana and i were getting her bed ready. we were pulling back the comforter and i found something not quite right. it seems that either her curious george doll was cold or playing dress up. george had been dressed in one her baby’s doll clothes. i felt for him, but really had to laugh.

poor george

the second occasion was more special. dana heard hannah in her room talking but sometimes it’s hard to hear the specifics. so, when dana went in to get her “up”, she walked in to hannah sitting on the middle of her bed surrounded by her animals, but this was no ordinary situation. hannah was re-enacting the manger scene. hannah was mary, baby bear was Jesus, dora was a wise man, beanerella bear (ballerina bear) was a shepherd, etc. hannah even had her blanket on her head as a covering. when dana walked in she was carrying kaitlyn. hannah decided that kaitlyn needed to participate. she decided that kaitlyn needed to repeat her role in waco christmas celebration as baby jesus. you just have to love the fact that she is getting into the spirt of the season!

Sorry, no new content to add. I’m sure I could if I really put my mind to it, but….

I’m having to announce that for now comments are being suspended. (Not that I gave you anything to comment about.)

It seems that the blog spammers have found my site again and are bombarding me with comments, many of a non-family friendly manner.

So, until I can get a new word verification system set up, this is the way I have to deal with it.

you may or may not know this, but my bro-in-law is really into evangelism, especially student evangelism. part of his recent project was just posted on youtube.com last week. it’s pretty funny and i recognize most if not all, which means i’m old school.

you can find out more about the project at getfishfood.com.

it’s a pretty cool project.
